Why we Walk and Talk together

We love Walk and Talk but what gave you the idea to set it up in the first place?

This is one of the most common questions we get asked by people who come along and enjoy a great time together.

...and our answer boils down to a simple answer..

Reconnecting local people and communities in a fun, friendly and engaging way is one of the most important things we can do together as a society.

Social isolation and loneliness are a growing phenomena across all communities, all ages and all backgrounds. A social media and tech fuelled modern society, seemingly designed to limit human interaction. Often bewildering changes in the way we work. A breakdown in traditional community focal points and family connections. The aftershocks of the pandemic.

...all contribute to feeling more cut off from society than ever...and the impact on our health and happiness is insidious...

Recent research from the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and others suggest that social isolation dramatically increases a person’s risk of premature death from all causes, a risk that may rival those of smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity, let alone dementia, heart disease....the list goes on...

Now at Walk and Talk we focus on the positive - so let's get back to that. We know a simple chat, a smile and a laugh, a friendly welcome, a chance to meet new people and make new friends, can work wonders.

The result: New connections. New communities. A New Lease of Life.

We are not miracle workers - we just give people the opportunity to do what they do best. Walking and Talking together. And that most simple of things has created an amazing impact on health and happiness as you see from our latest impact figures below.
