Walk and Talk Together Across Merton

...FREE COMMUNITY WALKS COMING TO A GREEN SPACE NEAR YOU...

The Walk and Talk Movement (https://www.walkandtalkmovement.org/) is proud to announce that is has teamed up with Merton Council and Merton Connected to roll out free weekly community walk and talks across Merton.

This is a chance for all generations across the Borough to take a stroll, chat, meet friends and neighbours, make new ones and help others. From older adults to young children, from buggies to beagles – everybody can join in.

The Walk and Talk Movement is on a mission to bring people together in a fun, healthy and engaging way. We want to help thousands of people reconnect with their local community after the terrible pandemic we have all suffered from.

This exciting news follows the successful launch of Wimbledon Park Walk and Talk, which takes place every Saturday at 10.30am beside the park café, and has helped many hundreds of local residents come together and enjoy their green space.

Walkers and talkers have already walked over 850 miles, made more than 1.5m steps together, burnt more than 85,000 calories and enjoyed hundreds of conversations and stories.

New local friends have been made, neighbours who didn't know each other have met for the first time, people who have been isolated or who have suffered losses during the pandemic have reconnected. The Walk and Talk Movement puts smiles on these faces and more every week.

Andy Yates Co-Founder of The Walk and Talk Movement said;

“The Walk and Talk Movement is on a mission to bring together communities for a fun and healthy weekly walk in their local green space and to help make a real difference – every step of the way. Because health and happiness can be a walk in the park.”

The Walk and Talk Movement is helping to spearhead Merton Council's Green Social Prescribing initiative and is also working with Merton Connected, which support, enables and champions the community sector in Merton.

Merton Council Director for Public Health, Dr Dagmar Zeuner said;

"The council is delighted to be working with The Walk and Talk Movement and Merton Connected to encourage people to reconnect with their community whilst taking part in healthy activities. Merton has more than 100 parks and open spaces across the borough, which were a lifeline for many people during the pandemic. I am certain this new movement will encourage people back to nature to enjoy a walk and a talk, whilst benefiting from improved mental and physical health."
